Blessed Be, You Are Among Witches

We are the internet's chat room for Wiccans, Pagans, Witches, and those spiritually inclined. Whether you come from a different religious tradition or are looking for a new path, you are welcome. Though many here are Wiccan, Pagan, or Witches in general, you will also find herbalists, off-the-grid proponents, Christians looking for a wider doctrine, Buddhists, Taoists, theologians, theosophists, psi-folk, and others. Witches Chat is always open and accessible via the web or your iPhone, Android, or Tablet.

Acceptable behavior

Idling

Feel free to stay in the chat room as long as you please. This is called "idling" and is frowned upon in many chat rooms, but is welcome in Witches Chat. A lot of people make the internet their home and social life. Other people may connect to the chat room with mobile phones and stay connected for days or weeks. This is fine.

Color and decorative text

Both encouraged and welcome. If you have creative knack and technical know-how to chat in the room using elaborate color and special ascii sets, then please feel free to use it. Some chat rooms discourage colorful text because it does not translate well on some older chat clients, however the Witches Chat room understands them just fine.

Age restrictions

The pursuit of answers and communion with people is not restricted to any particular age group. Although most of the people chatting in Witches Chat will be over 18, it is not uncommon to see younger people in the chat room. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, and young people are no exception. In no circumstances may you use the chat rooms to start or continue sexually suggestive dialogue with any member under the age of consent (whichever age is highest between any geographic region where the hypothetical parties are located).

Trolling

There are some people that spend considerable effort making other people unhappy, challenging their beliefs, and using falicies to put people down. This is unacceptable in Witches Chat.

Spamming

If you have a web site that is relevant to Witches Chat and the subject matter we chat about, then you are encouraged to share it with us. Posting URLs in the room is fine, as long as it's relevant to the conversation or the room, and it isn't happening every 5 minutes. It is in bad taste to advertise other chat rooms–please don't.

Bad language

Not suggested. Vassago, the room bot, keeps a count of the number of "bad words" used in the chat room, and he has been known to take action if that count is excessive.

Sharing spells and rituals

While some Pagan chat rooms prefer you to avoid sharing your spells, incantations, potions, rituals, and methods, this chat room will not impose such limitations.

Private messaging

Do as you please, but be aware that some people take offense to being sent private messages without first asking for permission to do so. Likewise, if you receive private messages from people that you do not desire to receive, you have the option of ignoring them.

Religion bashing

Putting anyone down is not an attractive quality, regardless of the reason why. Remember the Wiccan Rede: An Ye Harm None, Do As Ye Will.

Fighting

Please don't fight with other people in the chat room. It turns everyone off and dilutes the good vibe of the room. Sometimes it's hard to convey emotion or real meaning in chat, and so sometimes things are misunderstood. If that happens, forgive people, give them the benefit of the doubt, and let it go. Fights will not be allowed to go on. We have several web sites that tap into Witches Chat, and they expect the room to be a place that their visitors can chat in peace. Please help us strive for that ideal.

Witches Chat used as a dating/flirting/pickup-room

There are plenty of chat rooms that specialize in dating, flirting, and meeting up. Witches Chat is not one of them.

Sexualizing the chat room

Keep the discussion of sex out of the chat room. If you need to, take the conversation to private chat. In no circumstances may you use the chat rooms to start or continue sexually suggestive dialogue with any member under the age of consent (whichever age is highest between any geographic region where the hypothetical parties are located).

For Android cell/mobile phones, AndChat is the best IRC chat client.

iPad, iPhone and iPod

For the iPad, iPhone and iPod, Colloquy is the best IRC client.

PC, Laptop, netbook, or notebook

If you want to use an IRC client on the PC, download XChat2 for Linux or Windows.

With any of the above clients, you'll need to connect to the SorceryNet IRC network and join room #Witches (Yes, the # mark is needed). Most chat clients already have SorceryNet listed as a network, but just in case, the server address you want to use is irc.sorcery.net port 6667 or 7000 and the room to join is #Witches
